How to Make Baby Food Pouches

If you have a baby or toddler and are like me, you buy a LOT of baby food pouches, like a lot a lot. I don’t know who first thought of the brilliant idea to put baby food in squeezable pouches that require no help from a parent to eat, but they are a genius. On the other hand, you might also be like me and feel guilty every time you throw away one of these pouches. The amount of waste created from one pouch is ridiculous, plus these things can cost almost $2 a pop. So all that to say, store bought pouches are not sustainable eco wise or wallet wise for my family.

What is the solution? Do we have to go back to feeding our babies with a spoon like cave men and women? I’m ecstatic to say that we do not thanks to some other brilliant people who invented the reusable pouch allowing everyone to make baby food pouches at home. There are a ton of options for these, but I really love this brand, because of the side opening for easy fill and clean up. You spend $10.00 for a pack of 10 and you can reuse them over and over again. That is going to save you some serious money in the short and long term.

Here’s what you need to make baby food pouches at home:

  • Food processor or blender – We love our NutriBullet
  • Reuseable pouches – These have worked out great for me so far and are easy to fill and clean
  • Fruit, veggies and grains to make your pouches

It may seem overwhelming at first to make your own pouches, but it’s surprisingly easy if you have the right items on hand. So I’ve learned to always keep a supply of sweet potatoes, bananas, carrots, frozen fruits and veggies on hand. As well as having chia seeds, gluten free oatmeal, flax seeds and any other nutritious add ons you can think of. Then all you have to do is cook any ingredients that need it and throw into your food processor.

Here are some recipes I made up from the ingredients I had on hand to get you started:
